We owned both a Hus-Ski (we called it a Husky) and a Diablo -- they were indispensable for our survival!

                                                           Old Tyme Bolens memories

Old Sled Zone is always on the lookout for old tyme pictures of sleds in action. So we were pleasantly surprised when our creative director showed up with several rather weathered but interesting photos of two track-forward Bolens sleds.

Evidently, these two photos were captured in the early 1970’s while on an ice fishing expedition in northern Ontario (brrrr!).

The yellow model Bolens was a Hus-Ski 444 which was built from 1965 through to the1967 model year. These rugged machines sported a JLO engine and 247cc displacement.

The red model pictured is the famous Diablo Rouge 500 which was produced in 1967 to 1969. The Diablo Rouge was powered by a Hirth 300cc engine. Both the 444 and Diablo Rouge were equipped with caliper type disc brakes.

The early Bolens were known as real workhorse sleds which consisted of a powered prime mover and trailing sled. They weren’t fast but they would take you just about anywhere if you were patient.
