Dear Cousin Was glad to get your letter which I read about three weeks ago, will try to give you a little History of our family. It is doubtful whether you ever saw me as I was only 3 months old when my folks left Eastonville and moved to Rifle. I was 61 years old the 23rd of Nov. Sydney is the oldest of the family, then Grace, Fred, myself, Mary and Glenn. Father died at Rifle in 1927 and Mother still lives in Alma and Syd lives in Fairplay which is only six miles from Alma. Fred owns a Locker plant in Arvada, which is a suburb of Denver; Glen lives in Chula Vista, Calif. He and Grace's son, Leo Wells, have a machinery Rental Business there. Leo lives in Point Loma. We have been having considerable winter here so far, had about six inches of snow day before yesterday. Was down to 6° or 8° above zero last night. I don't like the cold weather to much any more. Glen and I were in the contracting and trucking business in Alma for 14 years and we had plenty of winter up there. The elevation of Alma is 10600 ft. so you know we had plenty of winter up there. We are planning to spend our vacation on Calif next fall and look around a little. We believe we would like to live in Santa Cruz We have been in Oakland several times. But neither of us likes the Big Cities. How is real Estate Values around there. We would rather not be right in town, have thought we would like to be back from the Coast far enough to be out of the fog a little. Will quit for this time. Hope we get to see you next Sept. Write when you can Your Cousin O. R. Gately |
