The picture above was taken in May, 2002, looking north from 39° 00', -104° 30', a point just off Highway 24 about 22 mile east of the center of Colorado Springs. The dark line on the horizon is the southern boundary of the Black Forest and almost in the center of that line is the location of Eastonville, where the Wilson family from Henry County, Iowa, and Joseph Gateley and his brothers from Mahaska County, Iowa settled in the mid-1870s. Joseph married Leveretta Wilson in 1887 and their first child, Sydney Gateley (my father) was born. |
For more details see the Riddles in Calhan (Martha Kendall Wilson married her second husband, Levi Riddle in 1915) |
| The dark lines are railroads. Note "Easton V.", top-center, where Wilsons and Gateleys lived. |
