Oakdene

Comments on the Accuracy of the Oakdene Map
                              (March 24, 1983)
         1. The western, southern, and eastern boundaries are those shown on the
Harnish and Lookup survey map made in 1958. The western boundary is
along the centerline of the creek; this part of the survey was made
during a January and so presumably done on the ice! On my map these
boundaries are probably accurate to ±10 feet.

         2. The 1852 Canfield survey lines coincide with the Harnish and Lookup
lines along the southern and eastern boundaries. The western line is
presumably close to the edge of the swamp. I have included it on the
map both to suggest the swamp boundary and to show where the lake shore
was 131 years ago. Although the survey ran from tree to tree, distances
and angles were given so that the accuracy on my map is again ±10 feet.

         3. The boundaries of the Murray and Gateley parcels are accurate to ±10
         feet.

         4. The location of the road to the cottage was estimated using aerial
photos. Accuracy is probably ±25 feet.

         5. The locations of the cottage, the swale, and the bluff (in 1942)
were estimated using a smaller scale U.S. Geological Survey topographic
map. The resulting accuracy is probably ±50 feet.
