The Harnish and Lookup Survey--April 2, 1958

(See reduced version of the Map)

This survey was probably done to settle some disagreements between Edward Ogden and Richard Herbrandt, the owner of the land to the east and to the south of Oakdene.  The survey report included the west boundary as well since H & L had done a survey two years earlier of the property west of Blind Creek and had established a division line down the center of the creek which provided an acceptable boundary for all parties concerned.  The essential data from the survey are given in the table below (Points 3-11 are located on the center line of Blind Creek).

The X and Y column entries are the point locations on a rectangular coordinate system with its origin at the SE corner of the property, the X-axis extending due north and the Y-axis extending due west.  These numbers were calculated by Bill Gateley and used to define the corner points of the five daughters fifteen-acre parcels.

Starting at the NE corner of the property at the waterline of the Lake (#1), go to the next point in the direction a distance of  X-coordinate of this point (ft.) Y-coordinate of this point (ft)

11. NW corner N 3° 11' W 170.52' 2624.80 1936.82

A large scale chart was produced using this data and has been used as the basis for the subsequent subdivision of the property into six parcels, one for each of the five daughters and the remaining one at the north end abutting the Lake shore and now referred to as Oakdene.

The NW and NE corners of the property have moved--and will continue to move--to the south due to the erosive force of Lake Ontario, so the exact location of these two points will remain elusive
