Almeda M. Peabody
1844 Jan 22: She was born to Benjamin and Mariah (Smith) Peabody in Pitcairn, St. Lawrence Co., NY.
1868 or 1869: She traveled with her sister Arvilla, Henry Wagner, and Henry's army chum from ??? to Gold Run in Summit County, Colorado, where her brother Lelon was mining gold. They traveled via Cheyenne, WY, Denver, Hamilton in South Park, and Breckenridge. [her Memoir]
1869 June: She was married by her brother Lelon, who was a Justice of the Peace, to Henry F. Wagner at Delaware City (Delaware Flats), Summit Co., CO. [The marriage was reported in the Rocky Mountain News of June 9, 1869, page 4, column 6.]
1906 May 20: Henry Wagner died and was buried in the Golden, Colorado, cemetery.
1920: The 1920 Federal Census for Colorado, Jefferson Co., Golden showed Almeda Wagner, at age 76, living by herself. She reported the birthplaces of her parents as "unknown" although she recalled them a year or so later when she wrote her memoir.
1921 May: She wrote her memoirs,. At the time she was making her home with her youngest daughter, Lulu, at 2801 Second Avenue, Los Angeles, California. The document is a fascinating account of her life both in upstate New York, where she was born, and in Colorado, where she was married and spent her entire adult life.
1925 Dec 31: Almeda died in Los Angeles, CA and was buried in the Mermaid Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Her oldest and youngest daughters, Lucy Maria and Beatrice Lulu are also buried there.
Henry Wagner's tombstone in the Golden Cemetery in Golden, Colorado, includes the inscriptions "HE LIVED TO HELP OTHERS" for Henry and "SHE LIVED LIFE BRAVELY" for Almeda.
