NAVIGATING THE OGDEN-GATELEY WEB
The OGW differs from most webs by having such a large number of links ("hyperlinks") connecting the various pages (a link is indicated by colored, underlined text). Many webs are almost linear in nature, but the OGW is extremely complex--think cobweb-- and numerous links are frequently needed to go from where you are to where you would like to be. (As of June, 2000, there are about 3000 links connecting some 700 pages in the OGW.)
The START ("HOME") page is of course the beginning, and most pages--including this one--have a link to START in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
In an individual's page there is usually a link (also in the upper left-hand corner) to the Family page where there are links to all of the family-name individuals, including ancestors, cousins, or other people with some family connection.
Each of the two Family Tree pages contains links to all of those families as well as all of those ancestors and consequently are useful for going almost directly to a particular person. Note that non-ancestors are not included in a Family Tree but are shown either on the appropriate Family page or on a Individual page (frequently in the Descendant list).
The novice user is encouraged to become well acquainted with the browser's "Back" and the "Forward" buttons (usually in the upper left-hand corner of the entire screen) because they provide the simplest way to retrace your footsteps or to retrace a retrace, steps that are desired much of the time.
The Descendant pages generally do NOT have links in the upper left-hand corner, but the browser's "Back" button will always return you to the previous page.
Note that when looking at a particular page, pushing the "Home" key on your keyboard will take you to the top of the page, and the "End" key takes you to the bottom.
