Know all men by these Presents,
That we Theodosia B. Dawson & John Dawson her husband of Henry Co. Iowa, Mary E Enslow and T. W. Enslow her husband of Lee Co. Iowa, Louisa M Dawson and John Dawson Jr. Greene Co Iowa, Margaret A Wilson and Paton Wilson her husband, Martha A Wilson and John F Wilson her husband of the County of El Paso and state of Colorado for the consideration of Twelve Hundred Dollars hereby convey to W. L. Hollingsworth of the County of Henry and State of Iowa the following described real estate situate in the County of Henry and State of Iowa to wit: the South West 1/4 of the South West 1/4 and the West 1/2 of the South East 1/4 of the South West 1/4 of Section Twenty-eight Township Seventy One - Range Six Henry Co Iowa 60 acres more or less. The above grantors being heirs of Wm. W Kendall decd, and with Laura Hollingsworth the wife of the grantee constitutes all the heirs of said Wm. W Kendall decd. The said Theodosia B Dawson being his widow, she having married since his death, and the other grantors being children with their husbands & wives. And we warrant the title of the same against all persons whomsoever to the extent of our respective interests. In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands this 17th day of November, 1883. State of Iowa, Henry County: Before me the undersigned a Notary Public in for said county personally appeared Theodosia B Dawson & John Dawson her husband, Louisa Dawson and John Dawson Jr. her husband who are personally known to me to be the identical persons whose names are affixed to the foregoing deed as grantors and acknowledge the same to be their voluntary act and deed. Enslow her husband who are personally know to me to be the identical persons who signed the same foregoing deed as grantors and acknowledged the same to be their voluntary act and deed. Witness my hand and official seal this the day and year above written, James C Senace, Notary Public State of Colorado, County of El Paso: I, Martin Tonnoy, a Justice of the Peace in and for said county in the state aforesaid do hereby certify that Margaret Alice Wilson and Paton Wilson her husband and Martha A Wilson and John F Wilson her husband personally known to me as the persons whose names are subscribed to the annexed deed, appeared before me this day in person and acknowledged that they signed, sealed and delivered the said instrument of writing as their free and voluntary act and deed for the uses and purposes therein set forth. Enslow wife and husband of the County of Lee and State of Iowa; Martha Wilson, widow, of the County of El Paso, State of Colorado, Alice Wilson, widow, of the County of El Paso, State of Colorado; Louisa Dawson, single, of the County of Henry and State of Iowa for the consideration of Three Hundred Dollars hereby convey to W. L. Hollingsworth of the County of Henry and State of Iowa the following described Real Estate, situate in the County of Henry and State of Iowa to wit: The North-East Quarter (1/4) of the South-East Quarter (1/4) of the South-East Quarter (1/4) of Section Twenty-nine (29), Township Seventy-one (71), Range Six (6) containing ten acres more or less. Said property being the same conveyed 15th March 1873 by C. D. Wood and wife to Theodosia B. Dawson. And we guarantee title of the same against all persons whomsoever. Lee County, Pleasant Ridge Township ENSLOW, T. W., farmer, Sec. 23; P.O. Denmark; son of Thos. Enslow, who was born in Juniata Co., Penn., June 4, 1800, and married Catherine Noss, who was born in Pennsylvania July, 1807; they settled in Juniata Co., Penn., where were born three sons and four daughters; the second son and sixth born, T. W., was born Jan 1., 1835, and at the age of 3 years, was brought by his parents to Lee Co., where they settled on Section 23 of this township; the year following their coming, his mother died; his father again marrying, remained at his first place of residence until his death, which occurred Nov. 19, 1853; T. W. remained with his father until his death, and May 1, 1862, in company with Louis Hosier and Henry Sophir, went the overland route to California, arriving at Stockton, after a stay at Virginia City of two months, the last of November of the same year; the first two years he engaged in farming, then in various speculations until 1865; then returned to Lee Co., after which, for six years he was employed as an attendant at the Hospital for the Insane, at Mount Pleasant, and Sept 15, 1874, he married Mary E., daughter of W. W. Kendall; she was born at Mt. Pleasant, Henry Co., Aug 18, 1848; soon after his marriage, he settled where he now resides, and owns eighty acres of land valued at $50 per acre; they have two children—C. Stanley, born June 27, 1875; Thurlow Tice, born Nov. 8, 1876; Torrey, born Jan. 4, 1879, died Feb 6, 1879. A member of the Mystic Lodge, A. F. & A. M., at Mt. Pleasant. Enslow New London, Ia., Nov. 19—T. W. Enslow passed away early Friday morning, November 19, 1909 at his home in this city, after a lingering illness of eight weeks, with a complication of diseases. He was born in Juniata County, Pa., January 1, 1835. When three years of age he moved with his parents to Iowa, locating on a farm near Denmark, Ia. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Kendall, September 16, 1874. Eight children were born to this union; two dying in infancy, and six surviving to mourn the loss of a kind and good father. The wife passed on before September 16, 1902. The children are C. S. Enslow, New London, Ia,.; Tice Enslow, Mt. Pleasant, Ia.; Ernest Enslow, Salem, Mo.; Stella Enslow, New London, Ia.; Mrs. Fred Ramsey, Mt. Pleasant , Ia.; Vaughn Enslow, New London, Ia.; One brother also survives him, A. M. Enslow, New London, Ia. Mr. Enslow moved with his family to this city thirteen years ago, where he resided until his departure from this life. Mr. Enslow was an ideal father and an excellent neighbor, highly respected by the entire community. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the house. Rev. T. F. Barker, of the M. E. church will officiate. Interment in the Burge cemetery. The foregoing is taken from the Hawk-Eye. Mr. Enslow was a brother-in-law of W. L. Hollingsworth, south of town. They married sisters and were married at a double wedding on the Hollingsworth farm, Sept. 16, 1874. Rev. Tappen, who for years preached for the Presbyterians, officiated. Mr. Hollingsworth is the sole survivor. He attended the funeral at New London. |
