The S.S. China carried the York family from Liverpool, arriving in New York City April 27, 1870. The New York City check-in point for immigrants from 1856 to 1892 was Castle Gardens, located at the Battery along the southern tip of Manhattan. |

The entries in the right-hand column show "steerage", which is the accommodation allotted to the passengers who travel at the cheapest rate. The next-to-last entry in the list below is "Henry" which was Harry York's original name and "Harry" was a nickname. He was born on October 17, 1868 in Piddington, England, and so was about 1-1/2 years old when the trip to New York was made. |
